The Rickshaw Run - Why are they driving across India on a glorified lawnmower?

While a lot of people may think that Charlie Noonan, Angelica Lynch and Sam Prebble are only taking part in The Rickshaw Run for fun, there’s actually a lot more to it than that.

From the windows of their rickshaw so far, they have seen eye opening pathology, including anything from goitres and polio, to the corpses of infants floating down the Ganges. This has been a shock however it has got the three young doctors pondering on under resourced groups in society and the importance of community.

These experiences are keeping them motivated as to the purpose of this trip. Rare cancers affect the Australian and New Zealand population but are often overlooked. With the help of our growing Namaste of the Highway community, together we are surging forwards in providing a voice and research funds for this neglected group.

Team Namaste of the Highways’ chosen charities include Rare Cancers Australia and the Cancer Society of New Zealand. Two wonderful organisation tirelessly working to assist those affected by cancer and supporting their families through these difficult period times. Both are accountable and transparent charitable providers, and worthy of our utmost support.

As part of the event, all teams also support and raise funds for Cool Earth, a charity working hard to halt rainforest destruction. Cool Earth is the associated charity of the Rickshaw Run, and actively limits deforestation alongside indigenous populations around the world. A very worthwhile charity.

Charlie, Angelica and Sam ask for your help and support in their efforts. Namaste of the Highway have arranged two donation portals to link to their chosen charities. They have covered both sides of the Tasman so fear not.

It is a friendly competition between our two island nations ...
