Crossing Greenland - Final Preparations

Dr Gareth Andrews and his team of polar explorers have landed in Greenland and are about to start the epic crossing East to West, unsupported.

They are currently in Tasiilaq, completing final ski training and packing pulkas. Pulkas are sleds pulled by the explorers to transport all of their equipment. The team are helicoptering to the ice sheet later today. Luckily there are clear skies there at the moment as well as being a balmy -1.

While warmer temperatures may sound more desirable than absolutely freezing temps, it is actually of high concern. If there are higher temperatures on the West Coast this may lead to melted rivers and more lakes which will make crossing and navigation harder.

On the whole the team are very positive and excited to get underway. And no, they haven’t seen any bears yet but plenty of icebergs!
