The Rickshaw Run - Crossing the Finish Line

After 3000km across India, Team Namaste of the Highway have crossed the finish line! We couldn’t be more proud of their efforts and the money they have raised for Rare Cancers Australia, The Cancer Society of New Zealand and Cool Earth is a testament to their dedication.

The epic journey has had its ups and downs. Despite being struck down by bouts of ‘Delhi Belly’, suffering heat stroke and “Rick” requiring a few repairs along the way, the team have also made many priceless memories. Taking a dip in the Ganges, getting ruthlessly beaten in schoolyard cricket and experiencing all the sights, sounds, tastes and smells India has to offer, has been an experience none of the young doctors will forget in a hurry.

On a more serious note, from the windows of their rickshaw, the Team have also seen eye opening pathology, including anything from goitres and polio, to the corpses of infants floating down the Ganges. These experiences kept them motivated as to the purpose of their trip. Rare cancers affect the Australian and New Zealand population but are often overlooked. With the help of the Namaste of the Highway community, the team has worked towards providing a voice and research funds for this often overlooked group.

One of the team members, Angelica, also shared her own very personal story to help raise awareness of rare cancers. It is through the dedication to patient care and medical research by incredible medical teams, that Angelica is able to call her mum and let her know that Namaste of the Highway has made it across India! It is only through raising awareness, the ongoing sacrifice/hard work of those in the medical field and ample financial backing that we as a global society can allow other families to be offered with a cure as well.

To this date Team Namaste of the Highway have collectively raised AUD$6,868, aka NZ$7,689, for the Australia/New Zealand Cancer Councils and Cool Earth. They wish to again thank you for all of your support and for helping Namaste of the Highway increase awareness of rare cancers.

It’s still not too late to donate, so congratulate the team for making it by donating here:
